ABOUT THE FILM
CORAZON DE MAGUEY is a film about fear, self-love, self-power, and revolution... THE Mexican Revolution. Re-telling the story of the Women who fought during this complicated war from their (our) perspective and, how does that translate to the fight of the women's rights of today. It is about passion, sisterhood, dead, light, and hope.
This EPIC story will be a film in the beautiful medium of STOP-MOTION ANIMATION! Told with a unique style and lovely characters. Let the love for stop-motion animation capture our hearts as much as it has captured the Women of the Revolution.

After being brutally hurt, Maria (our protagonist), escapes from the Hacienda El Maguey to join the Revolution along with her fellow soldaderas and adelitas. Between revenge and deep sorrow, Maria has to learn to choose, to open up, and to be vulnerable. With the singing of the dead behind her and the blood of an injured nation.

A DEEP PERSONAL STORY TO EVERYONE'S STORY
Maria's story is everyone's story. We have all been deeply hurt and betrayed in one way or another... And more often than not, it is because of our own lack of self-love. Growing up in Mexico I came face to face with the Machismo, so much that it was almost normalized in my life, to the point that you don't even realize what is violence and what is not until it is exaggerated and very, very obvious... I grew up in a loving and caring family, my nest was always full of love and comprehension, however, that world I lived in wasn't applied to the rest of the environments I had to attend, like the school and groups of friends, even jobs... So when someone harasses you It is hard to realize the situation you're in to be able to run.
Women have always fought to get their basic human rights. It amazes me it is still something we have to fight for, but I'm up to it as long as there is someone in danger of harassment and assault just because of the fact of being a woman. I can't think of a better way for me to do it than form a place of love and art.

WHO IS MARIA?
Maria is me, and every woman is her. What hurt me the most after being sexually assaulted by someone I trusted, is that I am not the only one, every girl I talked to have had a similar story. I needed to get my heart back, just like Maria.
When you've been hurt, something dies inside of you, and it takes a ton of love to get back to life. This film is full of color because color brought me back from the dead and I'm hoping it does it for you as well. If you have been hurt you can relate to her story and heal along with her, get your heart back, sow the seeds to have a CORAZON DE MAGUEY...
